The albergue Casa Ricardo is situated in the caserío (large rural house) of Campiello and has belonged to the Francos family since the early 19th century. The original structural layout of the house has been maintained, including the farmhouse, “panera”, well, corral and original bedrooms.
Our albergue, whose amenities are completely new, include a patio furnished with tables and chairs where you can kick back, relax, and get yourself ready for the next leg of the journey. The place also has a large kitchen-dining room equipped with an induction cooktop, microwave, fridge, coffee maker and all types of utensils and silverware.
History is the main guarantee of the Primitive Way, because as its name suggests, this is the first documented route to Santiago de Compostela and dates from the first third of the ninth century.
Route of The Hospitals
This is the oldest route and the natural choice for reaching the Puerto de El Palo (1146m). It’s also one of the most scenic. On clear days spectacular views of the mountain range combine with the natural charm of the region to make this section one of the most memorable because of its remarkable beauty.
Pola de Allande Route
We have information about the existence of this town from the X century, later alternative to Hospitals route to avoid the snowy mountains bordering the South.
This route is an alternative to Hospitals to avoid adverse weather, particularly heavy snow during the winter. The path is traced along the mountain to the south and its origin is linked to the foundation of the town of Pola de Allande.
… And us, we too carry on the family business.
In 2015 we adapted to the times and with the boom of the Camino Primitivo we decided to open the albergue. Since then we have tried to treat pilgrims like family and give them a place to rest and recover after a day on the trail. To this effort we have dedicated ourselves.
“It is my hope that whoever stays in our albergue can enjoy a place full of history, enthusiasm, and feel at home.”
